Stop Motion Fabrication – Part 1

Mechanical Drawing

The mechanical drawing of the character is used as a guide for constructing the armature of the puppet, marking the start of the stop-motion segment of the thesis.

The armature acts as the skeleton of the puppet, facilitating its movement during animation. Getting the mechanical drawing right is essential to determine the placement of the joints, the required bend in the wire, and the appropriate thickness of the body during sculpting and casting.

.

Armature

The armature was made using 1/8th aluminum armature wire for the body, propoxy 20, black annealed steel wire for hands and aluminum tubes to connect the body and hands (It also acts like an elbow)

My challenges while making the armature were primarily related to bending the wire to the correct degree and ensuring that the nuts still allow the bolts to pass through the tie-downs.
